Herbert P. Knauf, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist with advanced subspecialty fellowship training in corneal surgery, external diseases, and refractive and laser vision surgery. Dr. Bert Knauf is among a select few ophthalmologists in the United States with formal fellowship training in LASIK.

Dr. Knauf has published peer-reviewed articles and a book chapter on the excimer laser, and has presented his work at national ophthalmology meetings. An associate with Eye Site since 1997, Dr. Knauf has performed numerous LASIK procedures and was co-host of the Second Annual United States LASIK Course, an international meeting featuring refractive surgeons from around the world, which was held in Clearwater in March 1997.

He has lectured and taught other physicians about LASIK and laser refractive surgery, and is on the Clinical Faculty at the University of South Florida. Dr. Knauf earned his medical degree from the University of Florida, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

He completed his fellowship training at the University of South Florida in Cornea, External Disease, and Keratorefractive surgery. An accomplished pianist, Dr. Knauf put himself through medical school by serving as pianist and organist at various community churches in Florida. He also enjoys other leisure pursuits such as scuba diving, skiing, fishing, basketball, golf, tennis and biking.
